Between the Lines

Hole

Once, I could leave a sentence
Hanging halfway through.
There were those who knew the ending
Before I even knew.

Now I speak in careful pieces,
And keep the rest somewhere.
It's strange how much you learn to hide
When no one knows it's there.

I listen to their little stories,
And smile at what they say.
They never seem to notice
How much I give away.

The world goes on without a pause,
And I have learnt to smile.
They seem to know me well enough,
As long as I don't spoil the lie.

A misty vintage path beneath a grand tree.
