Between the Lines

Silence, my friend

I learnt the shape of empty space,
Of words that never came.
To stand among familiar faces,
And somehow have no name.

I heard the things they never said,
And felt what they concealed.
I knew the weight behind a smile,
The wounds that never healed.

I carried what they couldn't see,
And left my own unsaid.
Somewhere between their happiness,
I quietly disappeared.

And perhaps the saddest part of all
Was not that they couldn't see-
I understood so much of them,
Yet no one thought to understand me.

An empty bench beside a quiet lake beneath overhanging branches, framed in aged paper with tape.
